![]() A built 408 would move your ramcharger quite nice. Put a nice low end cam in it for a good idle/torque down low, and let me tell you that box pulls hard (plus he was able to keep his AC and all the other stuff). Another friend put one in his B3500 15 passenger van, this is a heavy vehicle with 4.10 gears, pulls a big trailer, etc. The stroker small block would be nice and light, have a sweet stroke (4 inch), and you wouldnt have to change much to put it in. Just a completely different motor built with different things in mind. The only plus to the stroker small block is you can retain your transmission, because when you go to the 440 you will need a tranny with a matching bellhousing, or have to go with a adapter from SB to BB (they arent cheap). Most people swap the 6.2 OUT to put in a 4BT:flipoff2: My 4BT runs circles around any 6.2 I have driven. I would either do a stroker small block or just convert to a big block. The 4bt did get ridiculous gas mileage though. Both trucks had same gears/trans final drives, etc. I know a former worker that had one in a 78 W150 (4bt) and it didnt feel any better than my 318 with 2 bar. Sure you can say all you want about the diesels (I wish I had one in my 00, love the power and smell). There is nothing like a 1/2 ton truck with a big block. Personally I own a 1975 ramcharger with a 440, a 86 with a 318, and bought a 2000 with a 8.0.
